Why You Should Get Tested for COVID-19

Infection by the SARS-CoV-2 virus can lead to COVID-19, a respiratory illness producing many symptoms such as:

Fever
Cough
Fatigue
Shortness of breath
Chest pain
Death
Can be infectious to others without producing symptoms (asymptomatic)

Those with pre-existing medical conditions and older adults (aged 60 years and over) are at a higher risk of developing a severe illness from COVID-19.

If you have been exposed to someone that has been infected with COVID-19 or have symptoms of a respiratory infection, it is important to get tested for COVID-19 to help you receive treatment in the early onset of infection and reduce the transmission to others around you.

A PCR-based molecular COVID test can be used to detect an extremely small amount of virus in the body, making this a highly sensitive testing method.
RT-PCR COVID testing is considered the gold standard for accuracy throughout an infection.

What’s the Difference?

Rapid Antigen

A rapid antigen test detects a foreign substance in your body (such as the SARS-CoV-2 virus) that triggers an immune response.
The rapid antigen test will help with fast, accurate results with a small chance for a false negative if performed at the start of an infection.

Why is PCR More Accurate?

PCR technology can detect tiny pieces of viral nucleic acid early in an infection that can cause COVID-19, which makes the test extremely sensitive and highly accurate in diagnosing COVID-19 infections.

What test is best for me?

In the early stages of infection, there may not be enough of the virus produced in the upper respiratory tract (nose) from which the sample is taken to generate a positive result using an antigen test. Since a PCR test can generate a positive result from even a small amount of the virus, it may be a better choice, especially in the early stages of infection.

The Testing Process

A sample is collected through a painless lower nasal swab and placed in the provided vial with stabilization fluid and is labeled with your appropriate patient information.
The specimen will be shipped to our laboratory to be analyzed with state-of-the-art PCR testing with 99% accuracy by our highly trained scientists.

Getting Your Results

You will receive an official laboratory report through email, text, or our web-based portal to review with your physician within 24-48 hours of receiving your sample at our laboratory.

Billing Policy

Innovative Gx will perform the test as an authorized testing facility. This member cost-sharing waiver applies to all Commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid lines of business. The policy aligns with new Families First legislation and regulations requiring all health plans to provide coverage of COVID-19 testing without cost-share.

The requirement also applies to self-insured plans or uninsured, covered by the Care Act. Per guidance from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Department of Labor, and the Department of the Treasury, all Commercial, Medicaid, and Medicare plans must cover COVID-19 testing with no cost-sharing.
